Walkabout

Travel and adventure experiences on film & digital.

Yarangobilly Caves, Kosciuszko National Park

I headed out to Kosciusko National Park and camped by the Yarangobilly River with my go to camping and hiking mate, Sam.

I don’t know what possessed us to go in the middle of winter, we awoke to deost and snow each night and the overnight temp dropped to minus 5C!

The frost and clouds mostly stayed away during the day and we got lucky that the clouds stayed away over night allowing me to capture an arm of the Milky Way after sundown.

I can’t wait to go back in the Spring!

CANADA - THe Rocky Mountains

Some images from my travels around Canada hiking and freezing up and down the Rocky Mountains.

Shot on a variety of digital and film I trekked up and down the mountains around Banff and Jasper breathing the cold, crisp air, stinging my lungs. I woke up to the first snow fall of the season the morning I climbed Tunnel mountain overlooking Banff. It was a very special experience for someone who had never seen or felt snow before.

tasmania, Australia - the Three Capes Track

Early in October 2023 my good friend Sam and I set out to the south east parts of Tasmania to tackle The Three Capes Track.

We travelled to the states capital Hobart and aclimatized ourselves with the cold, rainy and windy weather of Australia’s most southern state. Much different to the unseasonably warm spring weather of Sydney that we had just left.

After a couple of days exploring Hobart via coffee, food and beer, we caught a bus out to Port Arthur to then get on a boat to cross Stinking Bay to Denmans Cove for a wet landing, jumping in 10 degree water fed from the Southern Ocean up onto the beach which will be the first steps of the hike.

From then on we hiked 4 days along the coast of the Fortescue Peninsula. Shot on a variety of digital and film, we trekked up and down Mt Arthur, from SWEATING through the dry lowland Aussie scrubland to through the temperate rainforest growing up the side of Mt Fortescue and down towards the crystal blue water of Fortescue Bay, diving in the ice cold waters to finish the 48km trek.
